Give the fish a mouth full!
Game fish instinctively know the food/energy
'value' of baitfish that passes their way. That is, by instinct they
weigh the amount of food a baitfish offered vs. the amount of energy
the game fish will need to expend in order to catch the bait. If the
value is too low they will often let the bait pass by in favor of more
worth while food.
The tandem "schoolie" fly pattern is designed to
present 2 baits to gamefish with 1 fly (i.e. imitate 2 baitfish
swimming in a close school). Often this double-bait appearance will
get a reluctant gamefish to strike! The keel style of the pattern
also helps protect the hook point from fouling and acts as a simple
weed guard.
It has proven itself highly effective for a wide range of game fish throughout the world including striped bass,
weakfish (sea trout), drum (redfish), bluefish, snook, tuna and rooster
fish!
